Lisbon's Legend
In very remote times, nothing existed of today’s city of Lisbon, unless her own configuration. The legend tells that the Lisbon’s coast from today, had a strange name: Ofiusa – that means land of serpents.
And the serpent also had their queen. A very strange queen, being half woman
and the other half serpent, master of an enchanting glance, and a very gentle
voice. Sometimes, this odd queen would climb to the top of a hill and scream
so much to the wind, only so she could hear her own voice: ”this is my kingdom!
Only I rule here and no one else! No human being will dare to stand here: because
my serpent, won’t let him breath, not ever a minute!”
But
this strange queen was very wrong….In fact, during a lot of time no human being
adventured to disembark in this coast that she thought it would be cursed
by the gods and also by men.
However one day a legendary hero caller Ulysses came from very far, he was famous
by his warriors adventures, landed where today’s the capital of Portugal- Lisbon.
Because he was dazzled with the natural beauties he saw when he disembarked
he climb up a hill and with his virile voice, shouted to the wind: “Here I shall
build the most beautiful city in the Universe! And I shall give it my own name:
it will be Ulisseia, the capital of the World!”.
His
prophecy was made and today, although it hasn’t the name of a mythical grec
hero ”Ulisseia”, it’s one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and is
called LISBON.
